10/6/09-In class we are reading Savage Inequalities by Kozol, so one of the connections that was made to the book by many of us in class was the movie Freedom Writers. I just wanted to post a picture of the movie so if anyone is interested in watching it I would highly recommend it.
9/24/09- In class someone talked about the movie Wit with Emma Thompson so I thought I would post a picture of the movie so everyone coule see it if they are interested in watching it at some point in time. I know I will be looking for it, because Emma Thompson is one of my favorite actresses.
9/22/09- In class today we discussed South Africa and it’s history with segregation and the history of that part of the world. I did not know that much about South Africa except from seeing the movie Blood Diamond. So I wanted to post the movie incase anyone would like to see it.
9/14/09- In my QTPC #8 I talk about the band Muse, and incase anyone would like to listen to them I would highly reccomend it. Their lyrics are very inspiring and envoke emotions that could relate to anyone.
9/10/09- In class we discussed the second part of the book and I mentioned the movie The Great Escape about american prisoners of war, so I just wanted to post a picture of the movie so people can look it up and watch it sometime. I really enjoyed this moive it showed just how badly people wanted to escape and how they would try to escape at any cost.
9/8/09- Today in class we discussed the first book Maus I, and in class we went through some other holocaust books that other people have read. The book that I remembered most was All But My Life by Gerda Weissmann Klein; this book pulled me into it and had me feeling exactly what she went through. I have never read anything writen so well and conveyed exactly what the author went through during her experience of the holocaust. So I would encourage anyone if they had the time to read this book.
Plato\’s \”The Allegory of the Cave\”
Above is a link to Plato’s “The Allegory of the Cave”, which we discussed in class when the topic of how Benard and other people within the Utopian society view things around them. It seems that even though the Alpha’s are considered free thinkers they have not really achieved yet the whole perception of what is actually around them. I believe that Plato’s story of people being placed in a cave and what they go through is similar to how a few of the people in Brave New World think about their surroundings.
